There are many foods touted today as "health foods". You may be surprised to learn about some of these foods that you believe are helping you cut back on fat, calories, etc. Here are some examples:
Baked Potato Chips - Yes, they are lower in fat, but they are still high in calories. Eating oil-free microwave popcorn or air popped brands provide fiber to your diet, plus they are 65% fewer calories per cup! Choose popcorn when you need a crunchy, salty snack.
Diet Soda - A recent study found that people who drink just one soda per day have a higher rate of metabolic syndrome. This includes a collection of fat around your middle section, which puts you at a higher risk for heart disease. Better choices: water, green tea or flavored seltzer water.
Low-Fat Cookies - Remember the SnackWell's craze? Low fat cookies are usually made with extra sugar, meaning they contain as many calories as a regular cookie! The solution? Eat Oatmeal cookies. An added bonus - they are full of fiber which is good for lowering cholesterol levels.
Look closely at any foods that say they are "health foods". You may be surprised what you find.
