Signs of High Blood Pressure

Many times there are no signs of high blood pressure. That is why it is known as the "silent killer". You can live with high blood pressure for years before you even know you have it. By that time, it may have affected your liver, kidneys, and other organs. This is why it is SO IMPORTANT to get your blood pressure checked often.

Occasionally you may have signs or symptoms of high blood pressure. If you do, here are some of the more common symptoms to look for:

Headache

Nausea

Dizziness

Blurred Vision

I know when I first found out I had hypertension, I didn't really have any symptoms. I just had this general "out of sorts" feeling. I don't really even know how to describe it, other than it seemed that I couldn't concentrate on anything very well. I had always had low blood pressure before, and by the time I discovered it was high my reading was 186/104 - WAY too high! That stressed me out so bad that the nurse told me to calm down, that would only make it worse.

I urge you to have your blood pressure tested often, especially if you have any inkling at all that something may be wrong. Remember, there are often no signs or symptoms of high blood pressure!
